Chlamydia trachomatis is the most common cause of sexually transmitted venereal infection in theworld.It is composed of elementary bodies (the infectious form) and reticulate or inclusionsbodies (the replicating form), Chlamydia trachomatis has both a high prevalence and asymptomaticcarriage rate, with frequent serious complications in both women and neonates. Complications olchlamydia infection in women include cervicitis, urethritis, endometritis, pelvic inflammatorydisease (PID) and increased incidence of ectopic pregnancy and infertility. Vertical transmissionof the disease during parturition from mother to neonate can result in inclusion conjunctivitispneumonia. In men, complications of chlamydia infection include urethritis and epididymitis. Ateast 40% of the nongonococcal urethritis cases are associated with chlamydia infectionApproximately 70% of women with endocervical infections and up to 50% of men with urethralinfections are asymptomatic. Traditionally, chlamydia infection has been diagnosed by detectionof chlamydia inclusions in tissue culture cells. Culture method is the most sensitive and specificlaboratory method, but it is labor intensive, expensive, long (48-72 hours) and not routinelyavailable in most institutions.The Chlamydia Trachomatis Ag Test is a rapid test to qualitatively detect the chlamydia antigenfrom clinical specimens, providing results in 15 minutes. The test utilizes antibody specific forchlamydia to selectively detect chlamydia antigen from clinical specimens
Test Procedure:
Allow the test, specimen, buffer and/or controls to reach room temperature 15-30ºC (59-86ºF) prior to testing.
1. Remove the test card from the aluminum foil bag and place it on a clean operating table.
2. Add a drop of serum (no more) of about 10 microns to a bottle of sample buffer tube with a micro sampler and mix well. Then use the dropper to draw 3 drops from the buffer tube into the sample hole of the test card, and wait for about 10 minutes
3. Read the experimental results within 10-15 minutes, and the results after 15 minutes are invalid
Notes:
Applying sufficient amount of specimen is essential for a valid test result. If migration (the wetting of membrane) is not observed in the test window after one minute, add one more drop of buffer to the specimen well.
Interpretation of Results
Negative (-) : only one red quality control line appears.
Positive (+) : there are two red lines, quality control line and detection line
Invalid: no red line or only test line
